The Department of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine, Khartoum University consists of five Units: Immunology, Parasitology, Bacteriology, Mycology and Virology. The department works in close collaboration with the Faculty of Science particularly in the area of molecular biology. In addition to teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, provision of diagnostic services (mainly at Soba University Hospital), it conducts research in the five above-mentioned disciplines. Also it works closely with the Sudan Federal Ministry of Health particularly with National Health Laboratories, the AIDS and STD Programme, TB National Programme and the Epidemiology Department. It is linked to the National Council of Research through conduction of many research projects particularly on Leishmaniasis and Bilharsiasis at the Tropical Research Institute.
