Zone de Texte: Zone de Texte: Prof. Sayda El-Safi was the Head of the Department over the last four years. On July 2000, she has been appointed Dean of the Faculty of Medical Laboratory Sciences, Khartoum University. Her research interests include leishmaniasis and Clinical Immunology. As a Principal Investigator in several research projects on leishmaniasis that were funded by WHO/TDR, INSERM, EC Immuno-genetic studies on visceral leishmaniasis in the Sudan, she conducted - with the collaboration of a number of national and international institutes - epidemiological, clinical and laboratory research on leishmaniasis.

Dr. Omran Fadl Osman is an Assistant Prof. of Molecular Biology in the Faculty of Science, Khartoum University. He has recently (2001) appointed the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medical Laboratory Sciences, University of Khartoum. His background is Parasitology and Molecular Biology. His main research interest is molecular diagnosis of Leishmania infections.

Dr. Isam El-Kidir is the Head of the Department of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine, Khartoum University. He was the Director of the National AIDS Programme. He has founded a Molecular Biology laboratory where he is conducting his research in molecular diagnosis of viral Diseases.

Dr. Ahmed Abd/El-Haleem is an Assistant Prof. in the Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medical Laboratory Sciences, University of Khartoum. His background is Parasitology. He is an expert in primary isolation and in vitro mass culture of Leishmania. His PhD work included biochemical and molecular characterisation of Leishmania in addition to detection of MDR genes.

Mr. Awad Hammad is an experienced technologist in direct microscopy of Leishmania and serodiagnosis of VL including ELISA, IFAT, WB, DAT, rk39 and LAT for detection of urinary antigens.
